About
Founded in Adelaide in 1878, Theodore Bruce is Australia's oldest continuously operating family-run auction house. Now in its fifth generation of family ownership and chaired by James Bruce OAM — great-grandson of the founder — the business has operated under the same name for 147 years. Theodore Bruce specialises in fine art, jewellery, Asian and decorative arts, First Nations and Oceanic art, rare books, fashion and luxury, fine wines, furniture, and estate collections, presenting regular timed online auctions from its Sydney salerooms with offices also in Adelaide. The house is trusted by Australia's most distinguished private collectors and institutions. Recent highlights include the ongoing Dr John Yu AC Collection auction series and the annual Sydney Airport Lost Property Auction, which has raised over $1.9 million for Australian charities since 2013. The specialist team includes Hamish Sharma, Head of Important Jewellery — holder of the Australian auction record for the most expensive diamond sold at auction — and Dr Jim Elmslie, President of the Oceanic Art Society and Visiting Scholar at the University of Sydney. theodorebruce.com
